Summer Session

2024 Summer Championship Program Information

DVTFC holds a summer session beginning May 21 (later for in season high school athletes) for serious athletes who want to improve their track and field skills and compete in area Junior Olympic qualifying meets in June and July. 

We offer the full complement of USATF Youth events (sprints, jumps, hurdles, middle/long distance, relays, shot, discus and javelin) for boys and girls ages 10 thru 17 under the guidance of our USATF Developmental, Level 1 and 2 coaching staff. 

We welcome serious athletes (elite or not) who want to work hard to improve.

This session is generally NOT for brand new or inexperienced athletes (exceptions made based on coach approval)

Attendance at 2 practices a week is REQUIRED; attending 3 practices/workouts a week is ENCOURAGED.  Athletes are expected to focus on a couple of events. 

Participation in the Summer / Championship season requires DVTFC coaching approval.

Practices/Workouts
Practices will be held three days a week, at a combination of Pleasant Hill Middle School (PHMS) and Northgate HS.  (NOTE: separate workouts for high school athletes may be done based on interest and schedules). While school is still in session, weekday workouts are at PHMS Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30 - 6:30/6:45.  Sunday are 3:30 - 5:00 at Northgate HS.  Once school is out, weekday workouts move to Northgate HS from 6pm - 7pm/7:15pm. (time may move slightly based on Football workout schedule)
 
Meets

DVTFC will participate in several area youth meets in May and early June and the Pacific Association Junior Olympic qualifying meet June 21-23 in Modesto, and the Region 14 Junior Olympic qualifier July 5-7 at Chabot College and James Logan HS. Info about these, and other Summer session meets, can be found on the DVTFC 'Calendar'  Any athlete wishing to qualify for National Junior Olympics MUST compete in both the June 21-23 and July 5-7 meets.   

2024 Registration/Fees

The Championship/Summer session fee is $450 for new/returning DVTFC members for the entire 8 week season and will be pro-rated for high school athletes based on start date (due to CIF rules).  Fees cover all coaching stipends, USATF membership, insurance, facilities use permits, equipment/supplies, and meet entry fees.

There is an additional charge of $100 per athlete for qualifiers who decide to compete at the 2024 Junior Olympics ( to cover additional coaching and travel costs from the end of the Summer/Championship program in mid-July through conclusion of Junior Olympics (July 29).
