| Cross Country 2009 Diablo Valley Track & Field Club (DVTFC) is pleased to offer a Cross-Country (XC) program for boys and girls, ages 10 - 14, who love to run. DVTFC serves the Lamorinda, Walnut Creek, Alamo, Pleasant Hill and surrounding communities. The DVTFC XC program for 2009 will again be directed by Darrin Neutz, the long-time Acalanes HS XC and Track coach and current DVTFC Track head coach. Since cross-country is focused on distance running, each athlete must meet a minimum fitness level of being able to run approximately 2.5 miles (almost one lap around the Lafayette Reservoir) without stopping. Since we want to provide individual attention to all athletes, we will limit this year's program to 15 participants - so register early (see below).
Season - Begins Sunday, September 13 (brief parent meeting before 1st practice) - 11 weeks, through Junior Olympic qualifying meets in late November Practices / Workouts - Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday (5:00pm - 6:15pm) at the Lafayette Reservoir (times may change slightly with the onset of daylight savings time in late October.) Practices begin with warm-up and stretching, which is essential for preventing injuries and building strength. Athletes are expected to attend to at least 2 practices/workouts per week in order to improve endurance and running ability. Meets Regular season meets are held at different venues around the Bay Area, mostly on Sunday mornings. DVTFC currently plans to participate in 2 regular season meets, in addition to the Junior Olympic qualifying meets in mid/late November. Specific meets have yet to be determined, but a list of tentative meets (from which we will select 2) are posted on the PAUSATF web site at http://www.pausatf.org/data/2009/yxcschedule.html Meets usually begin at 9:00 a.m. with a course walk. Races are then held successively starting with the youngest age groups. Racing distances for 2009 age groupings are as follows:
